Lawyer Paul Mwangi has weighed in about the gen z movement which staged protests across the country against the finance bill.
Taking to his X handle, the lawyer talked about recent stories going around which show that some gen z who were vocal in rallying others to attend protests had betrayed them with some reported to have started siding with government.
The lawyer gave several examples of various other instances in Kenya's history when those who were agitating for change were betrayed by their fellow comrades.
He has revealed about the story of Rawson Macharia who testified against the Kapenguria Six. Macharia is reported to have given false evidence against the six Kenyans who had been arrested by the colonial regime after he was promised money, land and a scholarship to study in England.
The Kapenguria six were later sentenced to seven years. This delayed the independence of Kenya.
Further he has talked about how Martin Shikuku in the 1990s allegedly betrayed his fellow Kenyans who were active during the second liberation movement after he went to meet the late former president Moi without the knowledge of the others.
On the current state of general Z where there are claims that some of them have been bought, the lawyer said the betrayal is a disappointment and has made other despair.
He said the betrayals often derail progress if the struggle and ruins many agitators but they never defeat the people when they are determined.
"In this Third Liberation struggle led by Gen Z, it is being said some people have become traitors. There is disappointment around and many people are expressing despair. Betrayals are always a risk in liberation movements. They often derail the progress of the struggle and ruin the morale of many agitators. But betrayals never kill the liberation spirit and they never defeat the objectives of a determined people," lawyer Paul Mwangi said.
