Elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark, the National Leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, has offered his thoughts on the political standoff in Rivers State between former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a recent Punch article, Clark highlighted his extensive background and role in the founding of the state.

He said that Rivers State's establishment was made possible in part by him and Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye. Clark reminded everyone that Rivers State's political systems have existed for a long time and have been governed by a number of governors, criticizing Wike for attempting to hold onto power.

He emphasized that these political structures belong to the state as a whole and are not the property of any one person.

In Clark's words: "Wike was not yet born when Rivers was created. I participated in the creation of the state under (Chief Harold) Dappa-Biriye when the war took place, and the Midwest was invaded by the Biafrans. Rivers State was invaded too"
