Northerners Plotting Against Tinubu Unpatriotic – Matawalle

Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, criticized northern politicians for allegedly plotting against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. He labeled them as unpatriotic and lacking grassroots support. Matawalle defended Tinubu, highlighting the significant benefits the northern region has received under his leadership and urging unity among northern political leaders to support Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He cited several key appointments of northerners in Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing their substantial roles in various government sectors.

Sancho Open to Juve Move

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Jadon Sancho's interest in joining Juventus this summer. Manchester United prefers a €50m permanent transfer, while Juventus seeks a loan deal. Sancho, previously rejected by ex-coach Allegri, remains keen on the move. Juventus might consider a player swap involving Federico Chiesa. Sancho has also been offered to other clubs, but their offers haven't met Manchester United's demands.

Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has shared his frustration over the level of corruption in the country.

Speaking while receiving the management team of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) led by its Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, Olukoyede, said anytime he checks case files and sees the amount stolen, he wonders how the country still exists.

He said if Nigerians saw some case files they would weep.

He said public corruption ranks as the biggest cause of corruption in Nigeria, adding that if public corruption was taken out of the polity, the country would fare better.

Russian military repels Ukrainian attack

The Russian military, has repelled attacks by two unmanned Ukrainian drone boats carrying explosives on the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, the Defence Ministry in Moscow said on Wednesday.

The boats were destroyed in the sea, according to the ministry.

Novorossiysk on the Black Sea is a large port, where Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has stationed many of its warships for use against Ukraine.

The ministry initially did not mention any potential damage. It came after local media reported explosions in the area.
