Barca consider shock sale of 304-appearance Manchester City star with €400 million release clause

In a shocking turn of events, Spanish outlet BarcaTimes is reporting that Barcelona is willing to listen to offers for midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer, citing the club's ongoing financial struggles.

The news comes as a surprise, given the German international's impressive form since joining the Blaugrana from Manchester City last year.

Gundogan, who turned 33 in October, made 51 appearances for Barcelona last season, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists across four competitions. Despite his impressive numbers, the midfielder's future at the Camp Nou is now under question due to the club's financial woes.

According to BarcaTimes, Gundogan has a €400 million release clause in his contract, which expires in 12 months. The midfielder has been a key player for Barcelona since his arrival last summer, but with the club facing significant financial challenges, it seems they may be forced to cash in on one of their most valuable assets.

Manchester City, Gundogan's former employers, are still looking to fill the void left by the midfielder's departure. The Citizens signed Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes last summer to bolster their midfield options, but may yet be tempted to re-sign their former captain if an opportunity arises.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will make a move for Gundogan this summer. However, with Barcelona willing to listen to offers, it's clear that the midfielder's future is far from certain.

In related news, Manchester City are set to face Barcelona in a four-match tour of the United States this summer.

Gundogan's participation in the friendly matches will depend on Germany's progress in the European Championship, which is currently underway.
