Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, citing its vast economic benefits for both the State and the Southern and North-central regions of Nigeria.
This pledge was made during a stakeholders' engagement on the alignment of the Section 3A of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, held in Calabar.
The Stakeholders' engagement was organized by the Federal Ministry of Works to discuss the proposed alignment for sections 3A and the design for a 97 kilometre spur of the highway, extending from Cross River State to the South-East and North-Central parts of Nigeria.
Represented by his Deputy, Peter Odey, Governor Otu highlighted the critical importance of the project for economic development, not just for Cross River State, but for the entire region.
Some of the stakeholders at the engagement who spoke, commended the Federal government for the initiative, and called for the immediate commencement of the road project.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi noted that once completed, the highway will significantly improve the transportation of goods and people, boost trade activities, and spur regional development.
The Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project includes a 38 kilometer section from the Akwa Ibom axis through Cross River State, along with a 92 kilometre spur within Cross River State, making a total of 130 kilometres of construction within the State.
