An Ogun State PDP Chieftain, Segun Sowunmi has lamented over how prominent figures like the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike openly declared support for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election without facing any reprimand from within the PDP.

He complained over the reluctance of the party leadership to address pressing political issues in Rivers state between the Ex-governor and its successor. He furthermore expressed dismay at the perceived lack of principled decision-making within the People's Democratic Party (PDP), citing the example of the party's selection of a former deputy governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its gubernatorial candidate for the Ondo State November election. He pointed out that the PDP's recent moves undermine his longstanding commitment to the party.

He said in an interview with AIT, ''Nobody is expecting us to be pretending as if we are blind. What is obvious cannot be opaque. People like Wike are saying they will support Asiwaju in 2027 and we can't caution them. We can't be saying that we have a complex situation that is even affecting one of our most important states which is Rivers State.

And people are saying we can't put our feet on the ground to address this matter. How happy do you think I feel that the Peoples Democratic Party has gone to Ondo to pick a former deputy governor of APC who when he lost the primaries the last time did not even wait to work for the party, he decamped to another party. So if the PDP wants to be a platform that is a cannon folder to support other people's party, then you shouldn't expect me to waste 25 years of my life in the party.''
