Bode George, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has recently addressed the controversy surrounding Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and his appointment in the cabinet of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In an interview with Arise TV, which was also reported by Vanguard on Wednesday, George asserted that Wike remains a loyal member of the PDP and is not working against the party's interests.

George revealed that Wike had informed the PDP leadership of his intention to serve in the APC government through a formal letter. This disclosure comes amidst speculation and criticism from various quarters, questioning Wike's loyalty to the PDP, given his acceptance of a ministerial position in the ruling party's government. Some have even accused Wike of attempting to serve two masters simultaneously.

However, Bode George firmly dismissed the notion that Wike's appointment in the APC government indicates any disloyalty or betrayal of the PDP. He stated, "According to Wike, he wrote a letter to serve in the APC government. He still plays the music. How can he work against the PDP? I don't believe it."

George's statement suggests that Wike's decision to join the APC cabinet was made with the knowledge and consent of the PDP leadership. By citing Wike's letter to the party, George aims to dispel the perception that Wike's actions are detrimental to the PDP's interests or that he is actively working against the party.

The PDP chieftain's defense of Wike's position highlights the complex political dynamics in Nigeria, where individuals may hold positions in opposing parties while still maintaining their allegiance to their original party. It also underscores the need for open communication and transparency within political parties to avoid misunderstandings and speculation about the loyalties of their members.

During the interview, Bode George also addressed the internal issues within the PDP in Lagos State. He mentioned his recent return from an elders' meeting in Ibadan, where discussions were held to address discordant voices emerging from Ondo State. George emphasized the importance of party members returning to their respective local governments and contributing their efforts to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
