Gov Yusuf: I Have Liberty To Jail Any Of His Aides For Unguarded Utterances - Justice Simon Amobeda

Sanusi Bature, the governor of Kano State's spokesperson, has been given a severe warning from Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano. He is being threatened with imprisonment for allegedly distorting court proceedings.

Disappointed with earlier falsehoods made by state authorities, Justice Amobeda directed that Bature and any media representatives in the courtroom receive a Certified True Copy (CTC) of his verdict immediately.

Vanguard reported that the purpose of this step is to guarantee that information about the court's rulings is accurately disseminated.

The judge issued the warning in reaction to remarks made by Bature and other state government representatives, which, in Justice Amobeda's opinion, compromised the independence of the courts.

He said, “I know the Governor has immunity, but I have the liberty to jail any of his aides for unguarded utterances against the decision of the court.”

Justice Zuwaira Yusuf and Justice Farouk Lawan Adamu of the Kano State High Court were given a 48-hour ultimatum by Justice Amobeda in his order to step down as chairs of the Judicial Commissions of Inquiry.

Governor Abba Yusuf formed these committees, and their mandate is to look into a number of charges made against his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, including theft of public property and assets, political violence, and unaccounted-for deaths.

Since May 29, 2023, when Governor Abba Yusuf assumed office, Kano State has been the center of political and judicial disputes.
