According to reports from DAILY POST, the Nigerian Senate Committee on Power has initiated a crucial investigative hearing aimed at delving into the contentious issue of electricity tariff hikes across the nation.

The proceedings unfolded at the esteemed chambers of the National Assembly in Abuja, signaling a significant step towards addressing public concerns surrounding the escalating cost of electricity.

With a firm resolve to alleviate the burdens endured by Nigerians, the Senate reiterated its commitment to holding individuals or agencies accountable for exacerbating the plight of citizens through unjustifiable tariff increments.

In his address during the investigative hearing on Monday, Senator Eyinnaya Ababribe, the chairman of the committee, underscored the pivotal role of the Senate in scrutinizing the matter.

Ababribe highlighted the genesis of the investigative hearing, tracing it back to two motions tabled at plenary sessions on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, and Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

The Senate, through its resolutions, mandated the Committee on Power to engage with key stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Power and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), to ascertain the rationale behind the tariff adjustments and explore potential avenues for remedial action.
