APC Member To Tinubu: Move Now, We Can’t Afford Nationwide Unrest Over Economic Hardship

According to Oluyemisi Ayinde, a state representative for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu needs to move quickly to alleviate the nation's economic problems in order to prevent the type of unrest that has been seen in Kenya. Kenya saw protests after the parliament acted to approve a bill that would have increased taxes in the nation of East Africa.

Although the bill has not been signed by Kenyan President William Ruto, the protests have resulted in property destruction and fatalities. Ayinde wrote an open letter to Tinubu claiming that the Kenyan protests were a warning flag because they were led by Nigerian and Eastern citizens. African nations deal with comparable circumstances.

The letter states, "Your Excellency, the situation is extremely serious, and there is a great chance of widespread public disturbance since the ramifications would be catastrophic for our country." "Nigeria would be pushed back years, if not decades, in terms of the damage to infrastructure, the loss of lives, and the interruption of economic operations, undermining the progress we have worked so hard to achieve."

Your Excellency, there is not enough time to act; the window of opportunity to avert national instability is quickly closing, and the cost of doing nothing is simply too high." I thus implore you, sir, to mobilize all of the resources at your command and to use your distinguished leadership to steer our country through this dangerous time.

"Sir, we must show unshakable resolve and compassionate leadership to ensure that our beloved Nigeria emerges stronger and more unified from these hard times, as history will judge us by our reaction to this vital juncture." The APC member made several suggestions that would assist the president in averting disturbances. He declared, "To oversee the rapid sale and distribution of food to the public, establish a task force immediately under the presidency."

"Ensure accountability for carrying out economic initiatives and transparency in government expenditures." Initiate and accelerate long-term economic reforms to promote industrialization, diversify the economy, and raise agricultural productivity. "To ensure that people's basic needs are met and lessen the strain on hardworking families, increase financing and aid for the education and healthcare sectors."
