Several prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State have crossed party lines to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as reported by Vanguard.

The defection, which includes notable figures such as former federal lawmaker Hon. Sylvester Ogbaga, former Senator Sylvanus Nguji Ngele, and other executive members of the PDP, underscores a growing realignment of political forces in the state.

The formal defection ceremony took place at the Abakaliki Local Government Area Headquarters in Nkaliki on Saturday.

Addressing attendees, Hon. Ogbaga and Senator Ngele cited the PDP's failure to produce a governor from the Izzi clan as a key factor influencing their decision to join the APC.

They praised the leadership of the APC, particularly Governor Francis Nwifuru, for prioritizing the needs of the people and adhering to principles of equity and inclusivity.

The influx of these high-profile defectors into the APC ranks has been met with enthusiasm by party leaders and stakeholders. Notable figures such as APC National Treasurer Chief Matthew Uguru, APC State Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, and others welcomed the newcomers, commending their courage and commitment to advancing the party's agenda.

The defections extend beyond Saturday's ceremony, with additional defections occurring in recent days. During a visit by the governor's wife, Mrs. Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru, to Abakaliki Local Government Area, several influential PDP members, including Victor Nwoke, the member representing Abakaliki North in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, officially joined the APC family.
