Police Detain Over 270 Protesters, Declare 40 Others Wanted

The Kenyan Police authorities have confirmed the arrest of over 270 people over the nationwide protests which took place across the country on Tuesday.

The police maintained that the arrested individuals are suspected of going on a criminal rampage during the public demonstration against bad governance.

“Security forces across the country singled out suspects found engaging in criminal activities in the guise of protesting, and took them to custody,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, late Tuesday.

Withheld salary: SSANU strike ultimatum ends July 4

As part of its last-minute effort to maintain industrial harmony, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has again urged the Federal government to avert the looming total shutdown of Nigerian universities and other higher institutions slated to commence on Thursday, July 4, by paying the withheld four months salary arrears owed to its members.

Recall that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, had issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to pay its members the four months of withheld salaries. The Federal government has paid the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) the withheld salaries leaving SSANU, NASU, and NAAT.

Tinubu mourns veteran journalist Kabir Yusuf

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday extended his condolences to the family of Mr Kabir Yusuf, who passed away on Tuesday.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity in a statement on Wednesday, said Yusuf, a veteran journalist was the Federal Capital Territory correspondent for The Triumph Newspaper and Radio France Internationale Hausa.

“The president prays for the repose of the soul of the departed and comfort to his family in this time of grief and always,” Tinubu said.

FCT: Kugbo bus terminal will reduce insecurity – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has highlighted the importance of the recently flagged-off taxi and bus terminal in Abuja.

Wike spoke during the flag-off of the construction of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal in the Karu District of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The FCT Minister, while also noting the discomfort experienced by commuters in the FCT, especially during the rainy season and the attendant loss of man hours, due to the absence of public transportation infrastructure, said the provision of the bus terminal will make commuting in the FCT a more pleasurable experience and will also improve security.
