The present situation in Nigeria has been bemoaned by Senator Shehu Sani, a well-known public commentator and champion of human rights, in an exclusive interview granted to The Sun in Abuja.

He was quite worried about the general misery that Nigerians were going through and said that it was because of past leadership mistakes.

The present economic and political problems, according to Senator Sani, were made worse by the fact that previous administrations failed to take advantage of crucial reform possibilities.

He said the government had failed to deliver on its 2014 pledges to build refineries in six geopolitical zones, increase the value of the naira, and generate large numbers of jobs.

Senator Sani, remembering a promise made by President Buhari earlier, stated that he would take the lead in resolving security issues.

According to Senator Sani, the present problems in Nigeria are due to previous mistakes and ill-advised policies.

I wish things weren't what they are right now for our nation. Here we are, stuck in the same predicament we should have resolved a decade ago. Because previous leaders were unwilling to do what was right, we are in this mess now. Previous administrations could have executed most of the reforms that this one is pursuing.

The greatest chance to reshape Nigeria's politics and economy was during the Buhari administration, when these extensive reforms could have been put into motion. The ruling APC has completely disregarded its 2014 pledges. He listed a number of priorities, including the construction of refineries in six geopolitical zones, an increase in the value of the naira, the fulfillment of promises to create jobs, and the provision of national security.
