Anthony Sani, the former secretary general of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), addressed the issue of corruption during former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration in a recent interview with The Sun. He acknowledged corruption as a longstanding barrier to Nigeria's socioeconomic development, cautioning against solely attributing it to Buhari's tenure. Sani emphasized that corruption has plagued Nigeria for over six decades and is deeply rooted in structural flaws within the country's systems and institutions.

According to Sani, while Buhari's administration had shortcomings, including a failure to instill his own honesty and character in his appointees, corruption cannot be solely attributed to his regime. He highlighted the pervasiveness of corruption across Nigeria's history since independence, suggesting that it is ingrained within the nation's political landscape. Sani advocated for strengthening institutions, political will, and cultural renaissance to combat corruption effectively and foster socioeconomic development in Nigeria.
