Professor Pat Utomi, former presidential aspirant delved into the simmering leadership crisis within the Labour Party (LP) . Unlike the frequent changes in leadership witnessed in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Utomi asserts that the LP operates differently. According to NIGERIAN TRIBUNE reports, Utomi said, "Labour Party (LP) is not in the mould of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) that change their national leadership like napkins".

Utomi, also the convener of the Big Tent pressure group and founder of the Centre for Values in Leadership, In his piece titled "The Labours of Healing a Nation," He emphasised the need for unity and purpose within the Labour Party amidst the onging rift between National Chairman Julius Abure and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero.

Utomi emphasizes the need for a constructive dialogue among LP stakeholders to address the current challenges. He advocates for a gathering focused on a common purpose, aimed at alleviating concerns among Nigerians regarding the party's internal dynamics. Utomi warns against allowing the LP to be tarnished by the negative narratives associated with other political parties.

He stresses the uniqueness of the LP and its potential to rise above the typical party crises plaguing Nigerian politics. While acknowledging the need for reform within the LP, he highlights that its challenges do not mirror those of the APC and PDP. Drawing from his experience, Utomi likens political gatherings to chaotic assemblies, where self-interest often overrides collective goals. He advocates for a departure from this norm, calling for inclusivity and a focus on serving the greater good.
