According to a report from DAILY POST, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out successful airstrikes that killed several terrorists in Borno State.

According to the NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the airstrikes targeted terrorist hideouts near the towns of Degbewa and Chinene in the Mandara mountain region.

Gabkwet explained that the airstrikes became necessary after several days of aerial surveillance, which revealed a large gathering of terrorists in the two locations.

"The terrorists were also observed to be loitering within the vicinity, clearly oblivious of what was to befall them, and probably confident that their location was safe and secured from any form of military bombardments," Gabkwet said in a statement.

The NAF spokesperson further revealed that the airstrikes were authorized, and the aircraft engaged in multiple bombing runs, "until the majority of the terrorists were eliminated."

He added that those who were observed fleeing the location were also targeted and neutralized using the aircraft's cannons.

The successful operation comes amid persistent security challenges in the Northeast, where the Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist groups have continued to wreak havoc, carrying out frequent attacks on civilians and security forces.

Just recently, a suicide attack in Gwoza, Borno State, claimed the lives of 32 people and left 52 others injured, further highlighting the need for sustained military operations to combat the insurgency.
