Many footballers have won the English Premier League (EPL) as captains but one of them stands out. This is John Terry who is the only player that has won the league as captain in five different occasions in the EPL era as per Transfermarkt. It is more fascinating that he did it at only one club. How did he do it?

The defender was the captain of the squad that won Chelsea's first league title in the EPL era. This was in 2004/05 season when the Blues won the title with 95 points under José Mourinho. Despite playing as a centre-back Terry scored 3 goals during that term. He also ensured that his side kept 25 clean sheets in the process. He successfully defended the title the following season as the Londoners gathered 91 points ahead of Manchester United.

The Englishman was still the captain when Chelsea reclaimed the title from the Red Devils in 2009/10 season. This time, it was under the management of Carlo Ancelotti. Terry Guided the London outfit as they wrapped up the term with an 8-0 win over Wigan at Stamford Bridge. The Ancelloti-boys scored 103 goals during the period. JT won the league again in 2014/15. Interestingly, this was during the second stint of Mourinho as manager.

Though he was in action 9 times in season, he still registered on EPL goal as the Blues clinched the title with 93 points. It is worthy of note that no captain has won the title at the club since he left in the summer of 2017.

His exploits in the English top have earned him a place in the Premier League Hall of Fame this year.
