According to a report by Punch. The Abia State Government has announced intentions to count and re-register tricycles and motorbikes in the state in an attempt to reduce crime related to these vehicles.

This came at the same time when the state administration declared that, as of July 1, 2024, tricycles and motorbikes operating in Aba and Umuahia would only be permitted between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This was revealed on Tuesday while Uzor Nwachukwu, the state's commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs and chairman of the Abia Harmonized Task Force, briefed reporters on the results of his meeting with stakeholders in the state's transportation sector. He also stated that registration is free.

The commissioner stated that protecting the lives and property of law-abiding individuals and state residents was the primary goal of registration and restriction.

He remembered that numerous security-related incidents involving keke riders had been recorded in the state lately, which is why it was vital to implement the required security measures in order to stop the challenge.
