Suspected Robbers Arrested for Killing E-Hailing Driver in Delta
According to Punch, The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected robbers in connection with the murder of an Uber driver identified as Dantes in the Effurun area of the state. According to a Facebook post by Delta-based activist Israel Joe, the suspects initially sought the services of a commercial brothel worker before engaging the Uber driver to take them to their destination.
Joe detailed that while Dantes was driving the suspects to their destination, one of the suspects allegedly strangled him with a twine rope, while the other held the prostitute at knife-point to prevent her from making any noise. After strangling the driver, they're pushed his lifeless body out of the vehicle and drove off.
Joe wrote, “As they approached Aziza junction after the Mercy Land church, the fair one brought out a thick twined rope and strangled the driver from behind while the helpless prostitute was bailed up with a knife, by the other dark guy not to make a single noise.”
The suspects then continued their crime spree, allegedly attacking another driver, but this driver managed to escape unharmed. The robbers stole the vehicle from the second driver as well.
“Their plan was to keep moving, and they didn’t stop,” Joe continued. “After strangling the driver, they pushed him out of the car and went on to try to sell it in Agbor, Benin, and Warri.”
The suspects were eventually arrested after they attempted to sell the stolen vehicle. The police tracked a stolen phone to their location, which led them to the suspects. They had tried to sell the car in Agbor, and later took it to Benin, where they attempted to strangle another driver. However, that driver managed to escape by quickly shifting the car seat and running away. The suspects also tried to sell the car in Warri.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a telephone conversation, stating, “The suspects are currently in custody, and we are continuing our investigation. We will ensure that justice is served in this case.”
He added, “We were able to track the stolen phone, which led us to the suspects. We are committed to ensuring that those who engage in criminal activities face the full weight of the law.”
