The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), an agency of the Federal Government, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, responded to the question of a lady who asked which state between Ogun and Lagos is entitled to collect her tax because she lives in Ogun State and works in Lagos State.

The FIRS said on its X handle that Ogun State is supposed to collect her tax because that is her state of residence and not Lagos, the state where she works.

The FIRS is the body responsible for assessing, collecting and accounting for taxes and other revenues accruing to the Federal Government of Nigeria, while VAT is the tax added to most products and services.

The lady, whose X handle is @lollylarry1, made the inquiry from the FIRS and wrote: "I live in Ogun and I work in Lagos. Who is entitled to my tax? Governor Dapo or Sanwo-Olu?"

Responding to her inquiry however, the FIRS disclosed that due to the fact that Ogun State is the state of her residence, her tax is to be collected by Ogun State and not Lagos State, her state of employment.

The FIRS wrote: "Ogun State which is the state of residence (Governor Dapo)."

Many people who work in Lagos State are residing at various towns of Ogun State including Sango Ota, Mowe, Asese, Ibafo, Ajuwon, Akute, Sagamu, and other areas bordering Lagos.
