President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian Army to develop new strategies to prevent violent groups from endangering the nation's citizens.

Speaking at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Bassa Local Government Area during the conclusion of the 2024 Nigeria Army Day celebration, Tinubu, represented by Minister of Defence Mohammed Abubakar, announced the approval of new attack helicopters and essential equipment to enhance the army’s operational efficiency.

Tinubu stated, “As your Commander-In-Chief, I am dedicated to building a well-equipped and professional army that will be the pride of the nation. We are committed to providing the resources needed for you to fulfil your constitutional duties. Consequently, I have approved Group Life Assurance for all members of the Nigerian Army who have died in the line of duty.

“In our ever-evolving world, our army must adapt to new challenges. I understand that part of the Army Day Celebration included lectures and discussions on the current complex and unpredictable security situations. This preparation is crucial for tackling emerging threats.

“As global dynamics shift, our security strategies must also adapt to address new threats. The bottom line is that Nigerians must feel safe in their fields, on highways, in markets, and in their homes. The Nigerian Army is fundamental to maintaining this security. You must continue to build on the progress made and devise strategies to prevent violent groups from overwhelming peaceful, law-abiding citizens.”

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, lauded the successful Army Day celebration and expressed gratitude to the President for his strategic leadership and trust in the Nigerian Army.

“On behalf of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army, I reaffirm our unwavering loyalty and commitment to defending the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
