According to Punch, The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dared Governor Godwin Obaseki to a popularity contest, challenging him to take his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, on a walk around Benin City and other parts of the state. The APC deputy governorship candidate, Dennis Idahosa, made the challenge, stating that Obaseki would "end up with a bloody nose" due to his alleged disconnection from the people.

Idahosa and the APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, boasted that their party's achievements in the state would earn them victory in the upcoming election. They claimed that Obaseki's administration has failed the people and that it's time for a change.

The PDP campaign council responded, stating that Obaseki's popularity speaks for itself and that Ighodalo doesn't need the governor's accompaniment to prove his own popularity. The campaign council emphasized that Ighodalo has been successfully selling his ideas and vision to the people without relying on Obaseki's presence.
