On Wednesday, the Edo State Pension Bureau started a screening process for 900 pensioners who retired between 2014 and 2015.

This event took place at the State Pension Bureau Office in Benin City.

According to a report by Punch, Mr. Ambrose Akhato, who is the representative of the Permanent Secretary and Chairman of the Edo State Pension Bureau, as well as the Director of Computation and Secretary of the Bureau, spoke to journalists about the aim of this exercise.

He explained that the screening is designed to address the backlog of unpaid pensions left by previous administrations.

Mr. Akhato mentioned that the screening has brought joy to many pensioners, as it offers hope that their financial issues might soon be resolved.

He urged all eligible pensioners to take part in the screening, highlighting the importance of this chance for them.

Two years ago, in June 2022, the Bureau pointed out the need to screen pensioners who retired between 1996 and 2013 but had not yet received their gratuity.

The Governor approved this screening, and since then, those pensioners have been receiving their payments.
