The Police Command in Lagos State has begun investigation into the alleged killing of an Inspector by some Naval officers at Okokomaiko area of Ojo.

The Spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.

Hundeyin said a report on the incident was received at the Okokomaiko police station about 4.30 p.m. on Saturday from the public.

He said the report indicated that some policemen, who were on routine patrol along Igbo-Elerin, tried to impound a motorcycle riding against traffic at the Beno Filling Station.

The spokesperson said two men on the motorcycle in mufti, who claimed to be Naval officers, resisted arrest and attacked the policemen.

Other Naval personnel in uniform arrived at the scene and supported their colleagues in the attack.

It was when one Inspector (name not given) slumped and was unconscious, that the Naval personnel escaped from the scene.

“The inspector was rescued and rushed to a hospital in the area, where he was confirmed dead.

“The body has been deposited at the Idi-Araba Mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy, while investigation is ongoing,” he said.

2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi said the exodus of multinational companies from Nigeria has cost our nation a staggering N95 trillion in the past five years.

Obi stated this in a statement via his X handle on Monday.

He expressed concern over the departure of over ten major companies in the last year alone, including GlaxoSmithKline, Equinor, Sanofi-Aventis, Bolt Food, Procter & Gamble, Jumia Food, PZ Cussons, Kimberly-Clark, and Diageo.

Obi stated, “I am compelled to address the alarming exodus of multinational companies from Nigeria, which has cost our nation a staggering N95 trillion in the past five years.

“According to The New Telegraph, in the last year alone, over ten multinational giants such as GlaxoSmithKline, Equinor, Sanofi-Aventis, Bolt Food, Procter & Gamble, Jumia Food, PZ Cussons, and Kimberly-Clark, Diageo and others, have exited Nigeria, citing eerily consistent reasons.”

Speaking on the nature of the issue, Obi said, “It is clear these issues are not coincidental but symptomatic of a larger governance problem.

Meanwhile, Obi has called for action from the authorities, saying Nigerian leaders must address the trend of multinational companies leaving Nigeria.

He said, “The responsibility lies with our leadership, those we put in charge to urgently address these challenges.

The former Anambra governor outlined areas for improvement, including creating a business-friendly environment, prioritising security, stabilising policies, and reducing energy costs.

He also stressed the importance of “cultivating a culture of transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Obi further called for unity and transformation, saying, “Let us unite to transform Nigeria into a nation conducive to business, attractive to investment, safe and prosperous for all citizens.

Together, we can make Nigeria a beacon of hope and progress in Africa and the world.”

Recall that GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc had announced plans to shut down its operations in the country.

The announcement was disclosed in a press statement and filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited. It was signed by the Company Secretary, Frederick Ichekwai.

Atiku’s Plan To Unseat Tinubu In 2027 Wishful Thinking, Says Support Group

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been urged to perish any thought to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

A Tinubu support group under the auspices of Disciples of Jagaban said it made the call in reaction to Atiku’s reported to visits to former military President Ibrahim

Babangida and ex-President Muhammadu Buhari last week.

According to a statement by the National Coordinator of DOJ, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, in Abuja, Atiku’s latest moves only succeeded in showing the level of desperation of the former Vice President.

Alawuje said: “The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, is in the news again, as he embarked on a political sojourn that saw him visit two former presidents last week.

Though the details of the meetings Atiku held with former military president Ibrahim Babangida and ex-President Muhammadu Buhari remain sketchy, feelers are the visit may not be unconnected with the 2027 presidential election.

If this is indeed true, then Atiku Abubakar must be told in clear terms that 2027 is not negotiable as far as President Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu is concerned.
