Akpabio, Wike, 38 Others to Receive NEAPS 2024 Awards

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Taajudeen Abbas and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, are on the list of 40 eminent Nigerians that will receive the 2024 Nigerian Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) at a ceremony scheduled for Abuja today.

The NEAPS 2024 is a collaboration involving a private firm, The Best Strategic PR (TBS), and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

In a statement announcing the awards on Friday, the Communications Officer of TBS, Mrs Caroline Yovchevska, said: “President Bola Tinubu will present NEAPS awards to 40 Nigerians in categories that include excellence in infrastructure service delivery, urban renewal, financial innovation, healthcare delivery, digital innovation, outstanding reform initiative, security management, transparency and open governance.”

Abiodun rewards Ogun athletes

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Friday, doled out cash rewards to athletes of the state for their impressive performance at the 13th African Games in Accra and other competitions this year, Saturday PUNCH reports.

The Ogun State Ministry of Sports Development in conjunction with Ogun State Sports Council under the directives of Abiodun appreciated Team Ogun athletes with cash prizes during the mid-year sporting activities.

The event which took place at Alake Sports Centre in Abeokuta saw Ogun athletes who won medals for the state both at national and international levels given special reception and cash prizes.

The cash prizes of N500,000 each were given to the gold medalist, N300,000 for the silver and the bronze medalists were given N250,000 each.

Robbers shot, rob road safety officer in Lokoja

Armed robbers on Friday attacked a road safety officer, simply identified as Abu, as he returned from a bank and headed towards his house at Zango in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Abu was disposed of yet to be ascertained sum of money after firing several shots at him.

According to an eyewitness account, the armed robbers trailed the officer who was riding a motorcycle from the bank up to Phase One Lokongoma right in front of the Lokongoma market.

“He was double-crossed by the armed robbers and they started dragging the cross bag containing large sums of money with him and in the process shot him three times in both legs and shoulder,” the source stated.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, told our correspondent that at exactly 1:30 pm, officers received a distress call and rushed to the scene where Abu lay in a pool of blood after he had been shot in both legs and shoulder.

“He was coming from the bank when a Toyota Camry Ash colour car accosted him and blocked him right in front of Lokongoma market, Phase One in Lokoja, and was disposed of an unspecified sum of money,” he said.

According to Aya, N139,000 was recovered at the scene while the victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
