The Commissioner for Information In Rivers State, Joe Johnson has alleged that former Governor Wike dissolved the local government chairmen elected by his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi and installed caretakers for a period of nine months.
He noted that this decision was in accordance with the state assembly's law, demonstrating that the practice, though not stipulated in the national constitution, is legally supported by state legislation. By referencing the continuity of this practice across different administrations, he underscored the legitimacy of the caretaker committee system authorized by Governor Sim Fubara as per the state assembly's law.
He said in an interview with Channels TV, ''The state assembly was the one whom in their own law enacted the creation of the caretaker committee and it was enjoyed by former Governor Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi, and even Governor Wike.
Wike dissolved the Chairmen elected by Amaechi and he put caretakers in office for 9 months. This happened because it was in our law, it may not be in the constitution but it is in the law made by the assembly.''
