According to Daily Post, the Court of Appeal's recent ruling in Port Harcourt was noteworthy because it dismissed two challenges brought by local government chairmen who back Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.

The appeals, identified by case numbers CA/PH/137M/2024 and CA/PH/145M/2024, were brought by Enyiada Cookey-Gam and six others challenging the High Court's ruling on the extension of their tenure.

Following a thorough review of the appeals, the Court concluded during Monday's sessions that they lacked substantial merit. As a result, the Court chose to reject the appeals, upholding the High Court's initial decisions. For the local government chairmen who are impacted, this ruling has major ramifications because it establishes that the length of their term is final and cannot be further contested through the appeals procedure. Even if the appellants may be disappointed with the verdict, it emphasizes how crucial it is to respect the legal system and recognize the court's rulings.
