The former Kaduna lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has reacted after the Deputy Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Essien Etop Andrew, requested water before he slumped. The Custom Office was later confirmed dead at the National Assembly Clinic in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Daily Trust, Late Andrew was a guest of the Public Account Committee of the House of Representatives where he appeared for questioning on Tuesday in continuation of the ongoing probe of revenue-generating agencies and parastatals of government.

The deceased, along with his colleagues, was presenting to the Committee on the revenue remittances made by the Service when he collapsed and passed away.

According to the report, Andrew requested water shortly before he slumped and was later confirmed dead at the National Assembly clinic.

Reacting to the incident, the former Kaduna lawmaker stated that the National Assembly should make it a standard practice to conduct blood pressure and heart checks for all officials appearing before their committees. He believes this could help to prevent similar tragic incidents in the future.

Shehu Sani tweeted, "The National Assembly should make it a rule to conduct blood pressure tests and heart checks for public officials summoned to appear before their relevant committees.".
