APC Supporters Protest In Abuja

Some supporters of the All Progressives Congress on Monday staged a peaceful demonstration in Abuja, in support of Bola Tinubu, the party's candidate in the February 25 presidential election.

The protesters were gathered at Unity Fountain in Maitama with different placards carrying inscriptions such as "Elections were Legitimate and Asiwaju emerged," "No to Interim government," "Respect the rule of law, no law of jungle," "Solidarity in defense of democracy," among others.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu had declared Tinubu the winner of Nigeria’s February 25, 2023, presidential election.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday mourned the passing on of Lt. General Oladipo Diya, a former Chief of General Staff from 1993 to 1997 and vice chairman of the Provisional Ruling Council in 1994.

Diya, who was Chief of General Staff during the late Gen. Sani Abacha regime from November 1993 to December 1997, reportedly died at a Lagos hospital on Sunday morning after a brief illness, a few days to his 79th birth anniversary.

The president paid tribute to General Diya’s, recalling his bold and courageous career in the Nigeria military and dedicated service to the country as General Officer Commanding, 82 Division, Commandant, National War College (1991–1993), Chief of Defence Staff and Military Governor of Ogun State from January 1984 to August 1985.


Police Arrest 781 Electoral Offenders Nationwide

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested over 700 persons for violation of electoral laws during the 2023 general elections.

Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba disclosed this on Monday during a meeting with Commissioners of Police from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT, as well as other senior officers.

According to the IGP, the exact figure of those arrested currently stands at 781.


INEC Fixes Date For Kebbi, Adamawa, Other Supplementary Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, April 15 for governorship, national and state assembly supplementary elections.

The commission made the disclosure in a tweet on Monday. “Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023.
