Following their arrest for trying to storm Bondo Police Station on Thursday during ineffective anti-government demonstrations, twelve young people are currently being held by the police.

Cleti Kimaiyo, the commander of Siaya County Police, reports that young people began congregating in Bondo town around 1:00 pm and made an attempt to blockade the roadways.

Around 2:00 pm, a small group of protestors began attacking the station nonstop with stones, according to Mr. Kimaiyo.

According to him, this spurred the deployment of an elite anti-riot squad under his command, and together they drove the violent protestors out of the town.

The 12 individuals who were hitting the station with stones and other missiles were apprehended, Mr. Kimaiyo continued.

The head of the county police department added that the anti-riot squad kept up their guard, pacified the town, and drove out any remaining violent protestor pockets until 9.30 p.m., when they canceled the operation.

He added that the teenagers will be arraigned in court on Friday and that no injuries had been reported from either camp.
