Truth be told, there is no LGA election, there is no local government that is elected - Oshiomhole

Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Nigeria, has expressed reservations about the quality of local government elections in the country.

Oshiomhole claimed that even with the formalities, local government elections frequently lack transparency because the results are prearranged and the candidates are imposed without a legitimate public mandate in a video that TVC recently posted on YouTube.

Oshiomhole also underlined the necessity of governors holding each other accountable for the distribution of money intended for local governments. He proposed a greater emphasis on establishing a solid ethical foundation within the political system rather than just concentrating on legislative improvements.

He said, "The truth is that there isn't an election for local government, nor is there a local government that is chosen. You can talk about the formalities involved in writing up results or in electing someone to office when clearly no protest was raised. Laws are not necessary to enforce this. As APC chairman, I instructed President Buhari to call on all of the governors as well as the National Association of Local Government to inquire about the governors' use of their allotted funds. The constitution does not need to be changed; rather, our dedication to strong ethics and value system should be changed, as the law can never fully encompass everything.
