Ohanaeze Youths Call on Tinubu to Intervene in Rivers Political Crisis

According to Punch, The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the escalating political crisis in Rivers State and to caution Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, against actions that could further increase tensions.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has accused supporters of Wike of being behind a recent attempted bombing at Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, where members of the National Assembly were staying. Fubara alleges that the incident was a deliberate attempt to create chaos and justify the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

During a visit from the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, Governor Fubara described the failed bombing as part of a larger plot by Wike's supporters, whom he labeled as "haters" intent on destabilizing the state. He claimed the attack was timed to coincide with the committee's visit to provoke a serious incident.

Reacting to these developments, the Ohanaeze youth wing expressed concern over the potential for anarchy and the intention of the plotters to disrupt peace and governance in Rivers State. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Chika Art Adiele, the youth wing condemned the actions of former local government chairmen and their agents, who have been disrupting government activities by barricading entrances to local government headquarters.

"Nigeria is a constitutional democracy," the statement noted, adding, "It is an aberration for anyone to attempt to play God in the affairs of men." The youth wing urged the President to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and that Governor Fubara is allowed to fulfill his mandate without interference.
