He illustrated his point with the biblical story of Elijah and Elisha from 2 Kings 2:9-15. Before Elijah ascended to heaven, he asked Elisha what he could do for him as a final gift. Elisha's response was profound and spiritual.
Adeboye explained the significance of seeking blessings from a spiritual mentor, stating that it aligns with God's will for guidance in spiritual matters. He shared the story of Elijah and Elisha to exemplify this, highlighting how Elisha requested a double portion of Elijah's spirit—a spiritual inheritance that money cannot buy.
He emphasized that spiritual blessings from a mentor can bring divine empowerment and fulfillment of God's promises in one's life, illustrating how Elisha's request was granted and how it impacted his ministry profoundly.

In his own words, he remarked, "When we talk about spiritual dad, we are talking about someone that for one reason or the other, God has placed over you to guide you in spiritual matters and when you serve such a person, anytime you have the opportunity to request anything from him, ask him to bless you. Because when your spiritual father blesses you, the Almighty God will back it up fully."
"May I just give you one example: 2 Kings 2:9-15. When Elijah was about to depart to Heaven, he asked Elisha, "what can I do for you before I be taken away from you?" Elisha did not ask for money, didn't ask for anything material. He knew that Elijah is his spiritual father so he asked for something spiritual, something that money cannot buy. He said, "ah! My father, what I want is a double portion of your spirit. That anointing that you carry. That anointing that can bring down fire from Heaven anytime you command, I want a double portion."
