Senator Shehu Sani has shared a story about his time in prison alongside former President Olusegun Obasanjo during the military rule.

In a video shared by TVC, Sani narrated that he was arrested in Kaduna and taken to the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters, where he and General Shehu Yar'Adua met Obasanjo. He said the three of them were later transferred to Kirikiri maximum prison. He said upon their arrival at Kirikiri prison, he and Obasanjo were given blankets and food before being assigned cells. He said some armed robbers in prison recognized Obasanjo and they began shouting insults at him.

Sani said as a human rights activist, he was well-known among the inmates and he used his influence to calm the situation

In Sani's words: "When armed robbers saw Obasanjo there (in prison), they started shouting and insulting. And naturally, for those of us who were human rights activists, we were popular with inmates, and I had to talk to the inmates to calm down. I told them no matter the grievances you have with Obasanjo, he is now an inmate".
