"We Have Made Request" Sifuna Breaks Silence Reveals This To The DCI Office About The Azimio Plans

opera.com 2 days ago

Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), a principal party within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, has addressed concerns regarding the treatment of Azimio leaders by law enforcement. Sifuna’s remarks come in response to what he perceives as unjust actions and intimidation tactics employed by the authorities against members of the coalition.

Sifuna emphasized that Azimio leaders are committed to transparency and accountability and are ready to cooperate with law enforcement whenever necessary. "We have made a request to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that if there is any leader in Azimio who they need to see, we are available at short notice. We have given our numbers because we are not criminals and we will not be treated like criminals," he asserted.

The statement underscores a growing tension between the Azimio la Umoja coalition and government agencies. The coalition, which played a significant role in the recent general elections, has been vocal about what it describes as a targeted campaign against its members. Sifuna’s firm stance reflects a broader sentiment within the coalition that their leaders are being unfairly singled out and harassed.

Sifuna's comments also shed light on the broader political climate in Kenya, where opposition parties often face scrutiny and pressure from state apparatus. The ODM Secretary-General's bold assertion that Azimio leaders will not be treated like criminals resonates with many supporters who feel that their leaders are being unjustly persecuted.
