According to a report by Arise TV, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has said it remains confident of securing victory in the upcoming 2024 governorship election, attributing its optimism to internal party stability and perceived disarray within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja on Friday, APC leader in Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, alongside Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh, highlighted factors contributing to their party’s strong electoral prospects.

They affirmed that despite legal challenges facing the PDP, APC’s candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo, a grassroots politician, holds a significant advantage.

Oshiomhole dismissed allegations of APC involvement in the PDP’s internal conflicts, emphasizing the legal independence of intra-party disputes.

He stated, “The PDP’s internal crisis is not orchestrated by us. It’s a testament to their own internal struggles. Our focus remains on delivering effective campaigns and engaging more people to join our cause.”

Regarding APC’s campaign strategy and electoral readiness, Oshiomhole noted widespread defections from the PDP to APC in various localities, underscoring growing disillusionment with the ruling party.

He highlighted successes in mobilizing support across Edo North and Central Senatorial Districts, areas traditionally favorable to the APC.

Minister Abubakar Momoh reinforced Oshiomhole’s stance, asserting APC’s dominance in Edo North and Central due to their candidate’s local popularity and deep community ties.

Momoh confidently predicted APC’s success in these regions, citing Okpebholo’s senatorial track record and grassroots appeal.

Regarding Edo South Senatorial District, Momoh acknowledged competitive dynamics with the PDP and Labour Party but expressed confidence in APC’s strategic positioning. He pointed out the influence of APC’s deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, in securing crucial electoral support from two local governments.

Momoh concluded, “The battleground in Edo South will be closely contested, but with our strong grassroots presence and Idahosa’s influence, we are well-positioned to secure victory. Our focus remains on delivering tangible benefits to Edo people and winning their trust.”

The APC’s optimism underscores its strategic readiness for the Edo 2024 gubernatorial election, aiming to capitalize on internal stability and capitalize on PDP’s vulnerabilities.

As the election date approaches, both Oshiomhole and Momoh reiterated their commitment to transparent campaigns and adherence to electoral laws.
