Aiyedatiwa signs law to add 11 judges to Ondo judiciary

The Ondo state Governor lucky Aiyedatiwa, has singer msdbill that increases the number of judges in the state's judiciary by 11. This marks the first time the number of judges has been expanded since Ondo State was created in 1976.

As reported by PUNCH, The new law brings the total number of judges in the Ondo State judiciary to 35, a significant increase from the previous 24. Governor Aiyedatiwa signed the amendment bill on Thursday, hailing it as a historic moment that demonstrates his administration's unwavering commitment to strengthening the justice system and upholding the rule of law.

"Today, we make history with the signing into Law of this Amendment Bill. We mark a significant milestone in the annals of our great state," Aiyedatiwa said in a statement. "For the first time ever, since the creation of our state, we are increasing the number of judges in our judiciary by 11! This invariably brings the total number of Judges in the Ondo State Judiciary to 35. It is indeed a momentous occasion that demonstrates our unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and the Rule of Law."

The governor emphasizyed the critical role of the judiciary in a thriving democracy and noted that by enhancing the capacity of the courts, his administration is empowering the citizens and fostering a more just and equitable society.

"This achievement is a testament to our administration's dedication to strengthening the fabric of our society. We recognise that the judiciary is the backbone of our democracy, and by enhancing its capacity, we empower our citizens, foster a more just and equitable society and enhance the administration of justice in our dear state," Aiyedatiwa said.

The governor commended the efforts of key stakeholders, including the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, the state Chief Judge, Justice Segun Odusola, and the Attorney General, whose contributions he said were instrumental in the successful passage and implementation of the amendment.

"Your patriotism, doggedness, and expertise have yielded a triumph for our Sunshine State and its good people," Aiyedatiwa said.
