Army chief unveils Benue military hospital

Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, inaugurated a modern medical facility at 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, Benue State. The facility, situated at Joe Akahan Military Cantonment in Makurdi, was highlighted by Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian Army's spokesperson.

The COAS emphasized that the Makurdi project serves as a blueprint for future medical facilities across the nation. The center's Intensive Care Unit is equipped with life-saving machines to stabilize patients before transferring them to more advanced medical facilities.

Upgrades to the labour and maternity wards aim to reduce maternal and infant mortality by providing essential equipment. The COAS reassured that the new facility ensures a safe environment for women of childbearing age.

According to the PUNCH,Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, mentioned that similar upgrades have begun in the medical centers of Lokoja and Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos, with Gibson Jalo Cantonment in Yola set for the next phase. Lagbaja emphasized that well-supported troops are crucial in safeguarding the nation from threats.

The project aims to improve the quality of life for soldiers and their families, recognizing their sacrifices and boosting morale. Lagbaja praised President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing support and urged the 401 Special Forces Brigade community to take responsibility for the facility's upkeep and maximize its use.
