I suffered unnecessarily for that period of 12 and a half years - Adeyemi Ikuforiji

According to Punch, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been cleared of all money laundering charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed the case, ending a grueling 12-and-a-half-year trial that Ikuforiji described as "baseless and unjust persecution."

Ikuforiji expressed his relief and joy, stating that his records were clean and his books were neatly kept. He praised the court's decision, thanking God and his legal team for their support throughout the ordeal. The former Speaker had been accused of stealing and misappropriating funds, but the EFCC failed to present any evidence to support these claims.

The case began with a petition to the EFCC alleging that the Lagos State House of Assembly had mismanaged funds. However, an investigation by the EFCC found no evidence of misappropriation or embezzlement. Despite this, the EFCC continued to pursue charges against Ikuforiji, leading to a prolonged and contentious legal battle.
