Land Dispute Escalates in Ondo State: IGP Intervention Needed to Prevent Violence

According to Vanguard, Following the destruction of farmlands and burning of produce in Oge Community by suspected agents of Ayegunle Community in Akoko, Ondo State, tensions have escalated over a land tussle. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has been urgently called upon to intervene and prevent potential bloodshed.

Oge Community/Kingdom has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police regarding the provocative actions of Ayegunle Community on May 22, 2020, receiving a response dated June 9, 2020.

In a retaliatory move, Ayegunle Community lodged a complaint at the Zone 17 Police Command in Akure against Oge Community, leading to police intervention. This resulted in the arrest of Mr. Sunday Onileowo on June 20, 2024, who was later released following peaceful protests by the community.

Dr. Johnson Oyewole, speaking on behalf of Oge Community, stated that the Zone 17 Command is threatening mass arrests of Oge indigenes amid ongoing tensions. Urgent intervention by the Inspector General of Police is crucial to prevent further escalation and restore peace in the community.
