During the debate on the state of the nation on Thursday, July 4, the lawmaker described how he knelt before a police officer, pleading for the life of a young protester. Despite his desperate pleas, the officer shot the protester anyway, leaving the senator to recount the tragic event to his colleagues.

During the parliamentary session, Syengo recounted an incident where she had pleaded with a police officer to spare a young protester.

She explained that she had approached the officer within the precincts of parliament and informed him that the protester was innocent.

However, the officer disregarded her plea and pushed her aside, claiming the protesters were " goons from Kibera. "

Despite the protester showing his identification card, which revealed that he was a university student, the officer refused to listen and proceeded to shoot him dead outside the parliament building.

Syengo described the incident as deeply painful, stating, " It was so painful. "

The senator condemned the police' s heavy- handed tactics in dealing with anti- government protesters, questioning why the law enforcement agency had transformed into what she called " aggressors" instead of fulfilling their duty to protect citizens and maintain order in the country.

In a separate development, the police announced their intention to pursue and apprehend rowdy youths who were caught on camera stealing from businesses during the protests.
