Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to build 50,000 housing units across Nigeria to create jobs, uplift lives, and boost economic development.

The Minister stated this in Lafia at the ground-breaking of the 250-housing unit renewed hope estate in Nasarawa, adding the ceremony was a continuation of the nationwide groundbreaking exercise that President Tinubu launched in Karsana, Abuja with 3,112-housing units.

According to the Minister: “Under phase one of this programme, we plan to deliver a total of 50,000 housing units across Nigeria. This includes 7 Renewed Hope Cities that will have between 500 and 1,000 housing units per sits in each of the six geo-political zones in the country and the FCT, while the renewed hope estate will have 250 units per site in the remaining 30 states.

With this housing programme, we plan to unlocked the massive potentials of housing development to create jobs, uplift lives, and boost economic development. This is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President to stimulate inclusive growth, lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, and build a $1 trillion economy.”

He said that after the presidential launch of the programme in Abuja “we embarked on the first leg of this exercise with the groundbreaking of 1,500 housing units in the northern part of the country, this includes 250-housing unit Renewed Hope Estates, one each in Katsina,Yobe,Gombe, and Sokoto and a 500-housing unit Renewed Hope City in Kano.

Banki: Atiku lambasts police, calls for accountability.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the Nigeria Police for their alleged breach of citizens’ rights and disregard for court orders.

In a statement issued by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, on Saturday, Atiku criticised the Police for their alleged disregard for the rule of law, citizens’ rights, and impunity.

The former Vice President stated this following the arrest and transportation of a PDP

chieftain, Yusuf Banki, from Abuja to Maiduguri, Borno State, in defiance of a standing court order.

The statement read in part, “Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election, has slammed the Police for their blatant breach of citizens’ rights and disregard for court orders.

JUST IN: National power grid collapses again

The national power grid again collapsed on Saturday, throwing the country into total darkness.

Our correspondent reports that the grid collapsed around 3 pm.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has confirmed the development.

In a statement, the DisCo said all its interface in the Transmission Company of Nigeria stations are out of supply, saying it is unable to provide services to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company wishes to inform its esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.

“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre, Osogbo,” a statement by the EEDC Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, read.

Speaker Abbas seeks citizens’ engagement in good governance.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has reiterated the readiness of the parliament to enhance citizens’ engagement as part of the measures for the promotion of good governance in the country.

Speaking on Friday night at the dinner/gala to mark the end of the Open Week, organised by the House, the Speaker said the event demonstrated the vibrancy and strength of our evolving democracy and reaffirmed our commitment to the People’s House to uphold transparency and accountability.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Krishi quoted Mr Abbas as saying, “Transparency and regular citizens’ engagement are more crucial than ever. We strongly believe that transparency ensures that government actions are open to public scrutiny and foster accountability.
