A Former Leader of Rivers State House of Assembly, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja speaking about the Rivers state crisis has alleged that per adventure the Lagos Local Government Chairmen similarly refuse to vacate their office, it would constitute a direct challenge to the Federal Government.
He expressed concern over the dangerous precedent being set by the Rivers Council Chairmen. He argued that the prospect of council chairmen refusing to leave office would undermine the rule of law and disrupt the orderly transition of power.
He said in an interview with Channels TV, ''Let me draw your attention to the dangerous precedent that will be set by the Rivers Council Chairman. If the Lagos LG Chairmen refuse to leave office, they will be fighting the FG.
If this precedent is set, I can assure you that in the next few weeks by the time other council chairmen are due to leave office in other states, this same thing will repeat. I think that the federal government and the Nigerian police force should nip that in the bud so that this set of people do not truncate democracy in Nigeria.''
