A civil society organization, Naira Abuse Group, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Edo State for allegedly abusing the naira during their political campaigns.

According to the group, the APC candidates violated the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) rules and regulations by using the naira as a promotional material during their campaigns. The group alleged that the candidates used the naira to buy votes and influence the outcome of the elections.

The petition, dated May 5, 2024, was addressed to the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, and requested a thorough investigation into the matter. The group urged the EFCC to hold the candidates accountable for their actions and ensure that they face the full weight of the law.

The Naira Abuse Group emphasized that its petition was aimed at protecting the integrity of the naira and promoting a culture of respect for the national currency.
