On Friday, President Bola Tinubu welcomed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming September election in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, along with his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During this meeting, the Edo State chapter of the APC expressed strong confidence in their chances of winning the forthcoming election.

According to a report by Punch, they based this optimism on the current disarray within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The APC highlighted internal conflicts within the PDP as a significant factor that might work in their favor.

Furthermore, the APC pointed out that the PDP's candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, seems disconnected from the local population, which they believe will benefit Okpebholo, whom they consider a politician with deep grassroots support.

The delegation visiting the Presidential Villa was led by former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh.

The timing of this meeting was noteworthy, occurring just a day after the Federal High Court in Abuja raised concerns about the PDP primary election that selected Ighodalo as their candidate.
