UK election justifies Peter Obi as leader of black race – LP chieftain, Eze

The Labour Party, LP, candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Ezeh Emmanuel Eze, has named the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, the leader of the black race following the LP’s victory in the United Kingdom (UK) election recently.Ezeh noted that Obi made a pronouncement before the election day, directing the UK electorate to vote for the Labour Party and they gave the party a landslide victory in the country.

He stated this during the LP expanded state-wide stakeholders’ briefing at Citi Hub Event Centre in Abakaliki at the weekend.

According to him, the masses were not just only the followers and supporters of Obi in Nigeria but the entire African countries and the world.

“I’m proud to have a leader. In the UK election, we heard what happened. Peter Obi made a statement and told the people to vote for the Labour Party and the entire election went in one direction.

“We have a man who I can describe as a leader of the black race, not Nigeria,” Ezeh declared.

Biden faces crucial week in fight for reelection bid

The United States President Joe Biden faces a critical week Monday that will test his standing at home and abroad, as moves to force him to quit his fight for a second White House term gather pace.

The 81-year-old has so far defied calls to step aside after a disastrous debate against election rival Donald Trump last month threw into stark relief fears that he is too old to serve as president until 2029.

Allies have warned he needs to do more to convince his party and the public that, as he insists, only he can beat Trump at the ballot box.

“This week is going to be absolutely critical,” Democratic Senator Chris Murphy told CNN on Sunday.

Nigerian govt released N1.23tn for capital projects in Q3 2023

The Nigerian Government released N1.23 trillion to 17 ministries to execute capital projects in the third quarter of 2023. This is according to the Budget Implementation Report for Q3, 2023 released by the Budget Office on Sunday.

The figure showed that 75.4 percent of the N5 trillion was allocated for capital expenditure in the 2023 budget

Accordingly, from the N1.23 trillion cash backing in the referenced period, MDAs utilized N962.87 billion.

On a sectoral analysis, a breakdown of the report showed that the Ministry of Defence got the highest allocation for capital projects with a cash backing of N189.39 billion but it utilized N180.69 billion leaving a balance of N9.3 billion.

Pressure mounts on APC over zoning agreement

Ahead of the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, walks a tightrope.

Anambra has an unwritten zoning arrangement for the governorship position, which rotates between the three senatorial zones in the state.

The arrangement became more pronounced in 2012 during the twilight of the administration of then governor, Mr Peter Obi.

Obi had insisted on the then ruling party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) producing a candidate from Anambra North as a way to make for balance, after Mbadinuju from the South had finished a four-year-term, and himself from the central senatorial zone finished eight years term.
