Professor Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, a renowned human rights lawyer and former Chairman of Nigeria's National Human Rights Commission, recently expressed skepticism about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) via his official X account.

He addressed INEC's announcement of 142 recommendations aimed at enhancing the country's electoral process.

INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu made this revelation during an event in Lagos where he inducted 10 newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

Odinkalu questioned the efficacy of these recommendations, particularly in light of his concerns about the current composition of INEC.

"Mahmood Yakubu, under whom card-carry @OfficialAPCNg members have filled the ranks of @inecnigeria Commissioners at both national & state levels, is distracting us with 'recommendations for improved electoral process.' Dude thinks this is Nollywood?" Odinkalu wrote.

Odinkalu's statement notes his doubt that the proposed recommendations will lead to significant improvements in Nigeria's electoral procedures. His remarks reflect a broader lack of confidence in INEC's capacity to effect meaningful change.
