Elderly Man Electrocuted in Lagos Floodwaters

According to Leadership, a 61-year-old man tragically lost his life in Lagos due to electrocution during heavy flooding in the Orile Iganmu area on Wednesday. The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command, with SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesman, providing details through a verified social media post late Thursday.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly came into contact with an electrified street light pole while navigating through the floodwaters. Despite prompt efforts to rescue him, he succumbed to the electric shock.

In response to the incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin issued a cautionary message, urging the public to prioritize safety during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding. He emphasized the dangers posed by exposed electrical infrastructure during such conditions and advised citizens to exercise extreme caution when navigating flooded areas.

Torrential rains from Tuesday through Wednesday had inundated several parts of Lagos and neighboring Ogun State, causing widespread disruption to daily life and economic activities. 

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with efforts focused on restoring normalcy and providing support to affected communities.
