"The last time we visited Nigeria, we Won. So, success is achievable there - South Africa Goalkeeper
South Africa's goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, feels positive about the important 2026 World Cup matches against Nigeria in June, as reported by citizens. The Bafana Bafana team will face Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium later this month, aiming to improve their position in Group C of the qualifiers.
The Nigerian team, the Super Eagles, are under pressure to secure a positive outcome against South Africa, but it won't be a simple task. In recent years, the South African team, Bafana Bafana, has been a tough opponent for Nigeria.
In the last Africa Cup of Nations, South Africa forced Nigeria into a penalty shootout, where Stanley Nwabali's exceptional saves helped the Super Eagles to victory.
During their last visit to Nigeria in 2017, Bafana Bafana clinched a 2-0 victory, with Percy Tau and Tokelo Rantie scoring goals.
The upcoming match in June will mark South Africa's first visit to Nigeria since that 2017 encounter, and they are feeling confident ahead of the game.
Mamelodi Sundowns' goalkeeper, Williams, who is expected to be the main goalkeeper for the South African national team (Bafana Bafana), is confident that they have the ability to win.
The last time we went to Nigeria we beat them. I was part of that squad so I will share my experience with the players,” Williams said.
“And it was a valuable experience in the Afcon, playing Nigeria. I think that was one of our better games at the Afcon, so it is possible to go there and get a result. Why not? We have shown we can compete with the best, we just need to show that consistency.”
