There have been discussions between Ambassador Aminu Bashir Wali and former Governor Kwankwaso regarding the dynamics of Kano State politics and his relationship with Kwankwaso.

Wali claimed that he was unable to continue to struggle with Kwankwaso, particularly because he had played a role in Kwankwaso's political journey. This was in response to the question of whether or not he had handed up Kano politics to Kwankwaso and his supporters.

In an interview that was recently published by the Daily Trust, Wali stated that he was the one who was responsible for bringing Kwankwaso into the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and assisting him in becoming the first governor of Kano.

When he was introduced to Kwankwaso by Senator Hamisu Musa, he stated that he did not find anything outstanding about Kwankwaso. He stated that he was in favour of Kwankwaso and that he had rejected the push from other people, notably Rimi, to run for governor himself. He justified his decision by stating that he believed it was time for younger leaders to take charge.

In his words: "God knows I made him (Kwankwaso) governor, If I had said no, he couldn't have gotten that position".
